A few words about Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat...
In ancient days, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat was named Anao. During the 6th century the peninsula occupied by the Ligurians was surrounded by the Lombards. The recluse Saint-Hospice spent a part of his life in a tower on the eastern side of the peninsula. Two hundred years later, the Saracens settled on this heavenly place of the Côte d’Azur and stayed there up to the 11th century.
In 1388, the Dukedom of Savoy took possession of the peninsula while the Dukedom of Nice was about to surrender. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat saw fortifications arise during this protectorate. Under the reign of Duke Emmanuel-Philibert of Savoy in 1561, the fort of Saint-Hospice became an imposing edifice.
In 1860, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat was permanently incorporated into France such as the whole Dukedom of Nice. Nowadays, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is one of the most magnificent destinations in terms of luxury and prestige, with its villas, its lush vegetation, its prestigious hosts and heavenly peacefulness.
